DeAllaird-Jockow connection
Posted by: Rita O'Brien (ID *****5516) Date: January 02, 2004 at 13:26:32

I'm looking for the connection between these two names. Our family name is D'Allaird,or DeAllaird. But I found my grandparents' name was Jockow and that the Allaird name was dropped and picked up again. The name Jockow was in the records from 1832 to 1881. After 1893 the name DeAllaird was used. My grandmother always signed her name Jockow-DeAllaird. Her husband was born in UVNS on his death cert. and VT. on the Census in VT. and NY. the family story was that he was born in Pierre,VT.(1839) No such place. One uncle, George D'Allaird lived in Montreal, Can.(d:1924,owned a chain of women's apparel shops)It is a brick wall fo me. Appreciate any imput.
