I sure could use some help! I live in Hawaii, don't know Quebec, don't speak French and I'm trying to track down Allaire/Elayer ancestors based upon family information that may or may not be accurate. What I'm pretty certain of is that a Joseph Elayer(said to be the son of Joseph Elayer and Margaret Dumont)was born August 24, 1817 or 1818 in Trois Rivieres, Quebec, immigrating to the U.S. in 1837? He married Mehitabel Brown on November 2, 1845? in Franklin Co., NY. Their children (all born in NY) included Noris E. (born 1846), Miner E. (1849), Milo Orletus (1851), Marquis Edgar (1854), Chilson Wilbur/Nelson Wilber? (1858) and Harvey Serenus (1861). This family moved to Salem, Missouri.
The Joseph Elayer who married Margaret Dumont is believed to have been born c.1790/1797? in French Canada, probably near Trois Rivieres, Quebec. He married Margaret c.1816 and their children included Joseph (born 1817/18), Edward (1832), Nelson (1835) and 12 others (one became a priest). This family moved from Trois Rivieres to St. Marlin's/Ste. Martine?, Quebec and then to the U.S. c.1842.
This Joseph's father, Joseph Allaire/Alaire/Elair/Elayer is believed to have been born in France and probably emigrated to French Canada prior to 1760.
I hope you can identify this family. If so, can you confirm, correct or add to any of the above information? I certainly would be grateful. Aloha! Steve Todd (son of Clara Dolores Elayer)... firstname.lastname@example.org
