Interesting... Contact me direct as I have some information I would like to compare and get your input on. I found out about the possible connection to the Jewish Elias LeGarde a couple years ago and have been trying to track it down off and on every since. Have found some very interesting tid bits of information, but nothing conclusive. Its like being a detective on a crime scene. Find this tid bit and others and see where it points. I will say that the evidence is inclusive at this time but it does point to a strong possibility that we Alligood (eastern N.Car. spelling), Allegood, Ellegood, Elligood, and maybe a few other various, are descendants of the first Jew in America. I am original from Beaufort County, North Carolina, home of a large population of Alligoods. In that county Alligood is like Jones or Smith in most other areas of the country.
Regards, Gil Alligood
