From more digging, I find that Franklin Allis is probably a sibling of Edward Allis and Angeline Allis whose parents were William Allis and Betsey Wilson (source: William Allis and his descendents by Horatio Allis). Edward lived in Charlotte, MI before coming to Elyria, OH. Franklin, a tailor, moved from Elyria, OH down through Indiana to New Albany, on the other side of the river from Louisville, KY. From there he went to Covington, KY but by 1855 was back in New Albany to marry Louisa Pyle. I have not yet found a Civil War record for Franklin. But by 1866 he was back in New Albany to marry Mary Driscoll. The couple moved to Livermore, KY (south of Louisville)by 1870 where their daughter, Frances Henrietta Allis, was born.
