I'm looking for further information on the following family of Almindingers who appear in the 1850 US Census in Representative District 3 of Louisiana's Orleans parish: M.P. Almindinger, age 45, Carpenter, born Germany Susan Almindinger, age 36, born NY George Almindinger, age 13, born Miss Mary Almindinger, age 9, born Miss John Almindinger, age 7, born Miss Wm Almindinger, age 5, born Miss Josephine Almindinger, age 3, born La Horace Almindinger, age 1, born La "M.P. Almindinger" may actually be "M.G. Almindinger," as this name appears in other records (and it would fit with a son named George). I believe the Susan Almindinger listed here is the Susan A. Leek Almindinger whose death at age 81 is recorded in the New Orleans death index on 6 July 1893. And that would almost certainly make her the sister of my great-great-grandmother, Catherine Ann Leek. Here is what I have from my own family, passed along to me by my aunt: Catherine Loofborrow, b. 16 July 1794, dau. of Isaac Loofborrow and Susanna Stivers, m. Benjamin Leek. Their children were: Susanne Leek, b. 9 Feb 1812, m. (--?--) Almindinger. Daughter: Mary E. Almindinger Mary Leek Catherine Ann Leek, b. Dec 1821, New York City, NY, m. William Oliver Ford. Daughters: Mary Louisa Ford (b. NY circa 1846), Josephine Ford (b. NY circa 1860), Augusta Lavenia Ford (b. NY City, NY, 27 May 1863). I would be interested in hearing from anyone who knows of this family or is descended from this family. I am especially interested in knowing where M.P. (or M.G.) Almindinger was between the time he left Germany and when he came to Mississippi, as I am trying to locate further information on the Leek family, and it would help to know if they may have been somewhere other than New York City at some point.
