Someone suggested searching SSDI for the husbands names. I was told that Abel Mello and Jose Franco were not that common. The search for Abel resulted in only one match. His obit listed his wife's name as Mary (Almas) Mello. The search for Jose Franco also had only one match. His obituary listed his wife's name as Odelia (Pacheco) Franco. My grandfather's name was John Pacheco Almers aka Peters. It was common with the Portuguese that sometimes they took surnames that were the maiden name of their mother, grandmother, or even the surname of other family members. So I am still seaching. I hope to find these women's death certificates and verify their parents names to be able to make my connection. Don't know if this helps you any. Let me know what your situation is like.
