Christian Almas is my husband's GGGG-grandfather. Christian was born in Germany in 1752 and died 11/30/1843...not sure whether his parents came from Hungary or not... some say Almas is Hungarian and some say German. Most say German.
Christian married Magdalena Bacher in 1779 in New Jersey. They had the following 9 children (in no paticular order): Augusta A., Margaret, Adam Bowman, Anna Justina, Henry, David, Catherine, Lt. Col. John Baker and Frederick (Frederick is the line my husband link to Christian from).
There have been many spellings of the name "Almas". Like, "Almost", "Almis", "Almust". I haven't heard "Almasi" yet.. but I'm not suprised. Verification of the exact spelling of the name is currently being researched by a gentleman named David Almas (who also descends from Lt. Col. John Baker Almas).
Hope this helps you. If you have more questions or would like more information, you can of course post it here or email me at the email address below.
