Christian Almas - the German connection

Hello :)

I am decended through the (Lt. Col.) John Baker Almas line. I am very interested in tracing Christian Almas in Germany. I have just ordered the book "The Hessian of Upper Canada" as the author assured me there is quite a bit of Almas history in there - besides I just want it for my kids :) For info on that book

Anyway. I am wondering if anyone else has done any research into the Germany aspect of all of this. If anyone else is working on this I would gladly offer my assistance. If not, can anyone tell me what ship he came over on in 1776 or what village he was from. Does anyone have knowledge of how his name was spelled in Germany as it probably was changed when they recorded it here.

Thanks - I can be contacted through e-mail at
