My wife is decended from Christian Almas, also. I happen to have receved some information today.

About the spelling: from what I have, it seems that his name was spelled 'Almis' while in Germany, became 'Almas' while here, and in later years he was also known as 'Christopher Almost'. I believe the name change (to 'Almost') was to stop the poor treatment of his family by the Americans; this was also the reason he moved to Ancaster.

My wife is decended from Frederick Almas, the youngest of Christian's children.
