This is a repost of an earlier message -but to my now current Email address . . .

Some years ago, when researching Christian Almas and Magdalena Bacher, I found a record of their paying taxes in New Jersey, in a village named Oldwich (then Old Germantown). There is a record of their son, Henry, c. 29 June 1784 at Oldwick (Old Germantown), NJ. In the tax records Christian is: 'Cristeon Almis'.

I have an old document from a descendent (in the 1920's attesting that Christian was born in Stuttgart, Germany. I have other indications that he was born in Strasbourg, France (which is not that far away). Perhaps a wee village somewhere between the two?

Some people insist that they know he was b. in Brunswick, Germany, but I think this is just a reference to the fact that he fought with the Hessian Brunswick soldiers, other Von Riedesel.
