I believe Barrett Alpaugh was the son of Benjamin and Matilda(?) Alpaugh. His son, Spencer Martin Alpaugh is my grandfather. Spencer ran away from home in New Jersey at the age of 13 and came West on the rails. He never communicated with his family in New Jersey again, from what I'm told. Not sure what he did or how he survived as he died before I was born and stories were told to me by my aunts and mother.
Anyway, Spencer wound up a young man in Idaho where he married Bertha Vanderwilt. They eventually moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota, where my father, Robert Spencer Alpaugh was born in 1921. He had quite a few sisters and a little brother. He died in 1971. I'll send a link of this site to my mom and try to dig up more.
