Hello fellow Alphin's,
Sorry it took so long for my reply, but from living in England for 3 years I found out alot about the origin of our last name. There is a place called Alphins pike near Manchester in England. It got this name because of a mythological giant name d Alphin. He fought a friend for woman, and they two giants slung rocks at each other, and as the story goes Alphin won her. So they named it Alphins pike.I went to it ,but it was to hard to walk to the pike itself. From researching the name in England and Scotland I found out alot. There was a rumor that we were Dutch. From all the information I found, it is clear we are a Scotish Clan. When people would see my last name in Scottland they would look at me funny and ask if I knew about my heritage, and of course to find out I would say no.
Story is Kenneth McAlphin was the first king of United Scotland. So after Robert the Bruce did all his fighting and passed on our ancestors ruled Scottland. When they came to America like many other people they changed there last name from McAlphin to Alphin.
I also had a great discussion with a Scotish man on my military post and he explained in 3 hours how our name changed so much. Thats why we have all the Allphins, Alpin,Alfin, so on and so on. From what I gathered it was McAlphin and they were a highland's clan of fierce fighters. That's why our family crest has bull finch's on it. So anyways if someone has info I don't know or would like to discuss this further please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
