Alphin Family Genealogy Forum
Since the name is spelled interchangeably Allphin, Alphin, Olphin and other, my guess is that it's a misspelling that's been perpetuated over time. If you look hard enough you'll find that all of the Alphins/Allphins are related in some way back to the original (John Robert 1629).
I've looked all over for matches across the British Isles and elsewhere. There's a good possibility that the name is Dutch. I've found a few Alphin's in England in an area that was trading with the Dutch in the 1400's (Leichester). The area is right across the channel from Holland where's there's a town named Alphen. But then there's a town in Ireland named Elphin, so go figure.
