Good work!!! No wonder I could not find Florence Emma, I had no children for Charles & Sarah Ward Alvey but do have that they married in Franklin Co, IN onJuly 30, 1857, maybe I mentioned that to you before.I am trying to locate which archive I put your earlier e-mails figuring we might find a connection at some point.
I think I can help you quite a bit on theancestors of Florence Emma Alvey now but nothing coming forward.Charles Alvey was the oldest son of Philip and Drucilla Sothoron. They moved from St Mary's Co, MD in the early 1840's. Not in the IN census in 1840 but were in 1850 and the first child born in IN was Thomas Jefferson Alvey b. Franklin Co, IN on Feb 2, 1842.Philip and Drucilla had 8 children maybe more.I wonder in the Sarah Ann Phenis that Charles Alvey's brother married in Franklin Co, IN has any connection to the Phenis family Florence Emma married.Seems a long shot considering the number of years and locations.
As far as Florence Emma's ancestry back in time, I know that her father Charles was the son of Philip Alvey waswas born in St Mary's Co, MD abt 1800 and married Drucilla Sothoronin St Mary's Co, MD on 12/29/1826 in St Mary's Co, MD per the MD colonial records.Philip's parents were James Alvey and Sarah Burroughs who were married abt 1790 and had at least5 children.James Alvey's father was John Alvey, Jrwho was the son of John Alvey, Sr (this is also my GGGGGgrandfather by another son Jesse) John Alvey married Mary Ann Clarkeabt 1720 in St Mary's Co, MD.John is, controversially, the son of Arthur Alvey (there are two choices and I like this one, more if you want to know) Arthur was the son of Joseph Alvey who immigrated to St Mary's county, MD from Knotting, Bedfordshire, England in 1657 as an indentured servant of Robert Cole.I was in England in 1998 and visited the old church where Joseph was baptised and have a copy of the church's baptismal log that shows Joseph Alvey.I have posted some pictures of the church on my web page.
Not sure where you got the idea that theFlorence Emma Alvey descends from the Richard Alvey who is said to be the "Sheriff of Nottingham" but that in my mind is about as much "legend" as in the whole Robin Hood story.I have seen Jeff Alvey's web page where he mentions that and I have asked many times for some confirmation of that without response.I can only prove Florence's ancestry back to a Arthur Alvey, grandfather of Joseph. Some wonderful tales there but it only goes back to about 1560.Arthur did graduate from Oxford University, Trinity College about 1580 and was Rector of the old church "St Margaret of Antioch" which is still being used today even though it is over 1000 years old.
Keep in mind that while all of this sounds like it is facts that are solid as concrete, some of the history is a bit shaky and is based on the work of many people. Some, I have good documentation for, others I have only census records etcthat require some logical interpretation sometimes which can lead to the wrong conclusion.
