Hi, I am compiling all descendants of John Amazeen of New Castle, and here is what I have in my database for John L's parents, his siblings, and children of next generation. Are any of these your line?

Notes for William A Amazeen:
The birth record at the Concord Vital Rec. Dept has 7 Sep 1858 for birth date, 11th child of William and Mary (strangely, both male and female written on rec). However, in 1860 census he was listed as age 5. The Exeter Newsletter has his age at death as 9 years, 5 mos., which would also lead to an 1855 birth year.

Death rec, 28 Apr 1864, died in New Castle,NH from Diptheria age 4 years (another discrepency), ch. of Wm B and Mary (Lear)

On 1860 census, Frank is listed as 1 year old. In the 1900 census, he is with his mother at 5 1/2 School St in Ports., at age 38 (born Nov. 1861). With father dying in Nov. 1859, he could not have been born in '61.

In 1900, he was a carriage maker.

She was also called "Jennie R" on records, including her marriage and on the 1880 census.

census rec's for Portsmouth,NH: 1900 @ 44 Congress; 1910 at 14 Bridge St; 1920, 22 Winter St; 1930, still at 22 Winter; her husband had many jobs listed for these census records. NO children listed for her.

John L Amazeen enlisted 21 Aug. 1862 at age 19 with Company C of the 13th NH Infantry as a private. He transferred 1 Apr. 1864 to Navy Regt UN, discharged 6 June 1865. <NOTE: Civil War rec's say that the 13th NH was stationed at Camp Colby near Concord from 11-15 Sept 1862 to 6 Oct. when they shipped out. New Castle rec's say he married 28 Sept., he should have been in training then, but perhaps was on leave when he married Lucy>

Boston Daily Globe, dated 17 Jan, 1898:
from Portsmouth, Jan 16: word received here today of the death of Capt. John L Amazeen, a former resident, at Jacksonville, Fla. Capt Amazeen was about 58 and was formerly engaged in business in the city and was for several years employed at a hotel at the Isles of Shoals. About 15 years ago he went to Jacksonville and engaged in stevedoring on the St John's River. He leaves a wife and several children at his southern home, and an aged mother, one brother, and five sisters in this city.

Seen as Jennie D on many records, her middle name "Drew" comes from a New York Times article, dated 6 Nov, 1888. A terrible fever was striking Jacksonville fever, killing hundreds and sickening thousands. This article mentions Miss Jennie Drew Amazeen as one of the sick.
