John Amazeen was known as "the Greek", "the Italian", and "the Portuguese". From what I've heard and read he was called these names to identify his supposed ethnic origins-- which apparently he didn't discuss with many people, if at all. Of the three, one literate contemporary of John Amazeen (who was not literate) wrote that he was of Italian origin.
