Thank you very much for the information. You are correct that it was Ellen Ambrose who married James Griffin. She was the sister of my great great grandfather George Ambrose. For years our family thought that her name was Catherine, but I recently discovered in my father's files a letter from a professional genealogist saying that her real name was Ellen. By any chance, do you know if the Michael Ambrose who married Catherine Griffin was Ellen's brother?
