Bowen & Company, Inc., Indianapolis, Indianapg. 151 - Newton Ambrose was a son of Frederick Ambrose, who was born in Frederick County, Virginia, and who came to Ohio in 1799, settling on the Mad river, in that part of the state later comprised within bounds of Champaign County.When Urbana later was laid out he moved to town and there started a pottery.He also was somewhat engaged in the merchantile business, was quite active in local politics and served as one of the early sheriffs of the county.Frederick Ambrose was married twice, his first wife having been Jennie Tanner, of Irish descent, and his second wife, Mary Poff, of Kentucky.By his first marriage he was the father of nine children and by the second marriage, six children.
