The one who died in 1779, called Captain on his grave marker, was not necessarily a Captain active during the Rev. War. Since he was age 70 when the Rev. War began, he was probably not required to participate in the militia. His service as Captain was probably more than 20 years previous, during the French and Indian War.

Town records might tell more of the story.
