Jared,

This neat 'report' is said of a lot more folks than it is strictly true for.

The way to find out is to obtain a copy of his Service Record. If you find some entries indicating he was on command "with his Excellency" that would corroborate that at least he had been seconded to the command staff, though it might not tell you about exactly what his role was.

Footnote.com has the compiled service records; you can subscribe for a short time for a small fee. Supposedly they have a free trial for full access, but I could not make the full-access part work.

Or you can order a copy of his service record from the National Archives, using a form you can order at their web site, if you know what Continental Regiment he was in.

Or you can look for his service record in the actual muster- and pay-rolls on Ancestry; your local library may have a subscription for free patron use, or subscribe for a short period.

I did not find a person by that name listed among the Continentals, but entries can be missed.

Good hunting,
Jade
