J, Of course, you can't believe everything on the internet, but I've seen several cases where the 13th was referred to as the "West Augusta Regiment". Here's one: http://books.google.com/books?id=8wZC8Y8z5j8C&pg=PA90&lpg=PA90&dq=west+augusta+regiment&source=bl&ots=50KmsDM16X&sig=91sowVqEKxzscc65ddWr5NiNzqM&hl=en&ei=u8A7So-NB5iRjAfCj4gN&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=6 It says, "The Thirteenth Virginia, or as it was usually known, the West Augusta Regiment, was commanded by Col. William Russell and Lt. Col. John Gibson..." from Pittsburgh: the story of a city, 1750 - 1865. I've also seen (or been told) that Fort Pitt was kind of like the home base for the 13th (9th), but that at various times, a soldier could have been at Fort McIntosh or Fort Laurens in Ohio for a short time. I've been to both of those sites. Fort Laurens has a reproduction of the 13th flag and uniform in their museum. I would definitely be interested in any information (or corrections about misinformation) that you might have. Thanks. Notify Administrator about this message?
