Debbie -

Not sure how much this will help you, but the similarities are striking! No.3 Marsh Cottage will be of interest to you. Irish Andertons are rare enough, but I am told that Richard is the only American born Anderton in the 1881 Census of England. I would assume there should be a record of Richards' birth in 1874/5 Pennsylvania, USA and probably the marriage of his parents, Francis & Margaret Anderton b. in Galway Ireland in 1852/4 & 1858/9 respectively. The family returned to ireland sometime between 1875 - 8

I've been helping follow up on the Andertons of the Kirkham - Clifton area near Preston in Lancashire, England. A colleague, Adrian, kindly passed on the 1881 census information for this area and pointed out an Irish / American connection in three households. I have checked the 1891 census and gained some additional information on them plus another, similar, household which I will summarise the lot on the off chance that it might link up with someone else out there.

This Robert is the "odd one out". He could not be a son of Richard & Mary Anderton of Newton With Scales (no.2) because they have a son, Richard, who is the same age and who appears in the 1891 Census. I see three possibilities
- Robert is a twin of the aforementioned Richard, he could be a son of Thomas & Ann of Clifton Village (no.1) or he could be unconnected.

------------------------------------------------------------
SOURCES
<1> 1881 Census
<2> 1891 Census
------------------------------------------------------------
It would be nice if we could find some information on these families from "across the waters" <hint, hint>. I have an immense amount of information on Andertons of the Fylde in Lancashire, England - the area from Preston, North to Churchtown and across to Blackpool on the coast.

Good Hunting all
