I am looking for information on Walter F. Ankeny, born in Floyd Co. Iowa about 1864. In 1900 he was living with his brother Joseph Lester Ankeny, both listed in the Topeka Kansas census as widowed. It is believed Walter had a daughter, Dorothy, born in 1898 in Kansas, although she was not listed as living with him in 1900. Family tradition is that Walter's wife died in childbirth and that Walter and Dorothy eventually moved to Los Angeles, where Walter became a merchant marine. Dorothy claimed to not have seen her father much as she was growing up and to have been raised in Venice, CA by a housekeeper. However, I have found her living in Pasadena in 1910 with father Walter and uncle Joseph and her Aunt Catharine Ankeny Ayers. In that census, Walter was listed as a lumber salesman. I would appreciate any information on this family.
