I suggest you check out this webpage: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~monticue/apples_chapel_north_carolina.htm. It has an extraordinary amount of info on the Appels/Apples, including William. He was quite a character that no one knew much about. I, too descend from him when he was in Alamance County.
