Medical Schools in the area 1880's

In the 1880 census records of Mineral Springs Township, Howard Co., AR, Perry L JOHNSON was listed as a medical student, age 20. Searching for information on schools in this area that he might have attended. Are there records available from these schools? Any of them still in existance? Any help appreciated.
