I saw the 1870 census. While the story may be true, the only way you will know for sure is to do DNA sampling. There are 2 teenage boys in the house, Foster R, 18, and Dandridge C. Either one could be the father, or even perhaps the father Henry J. Relationships like that were common. If they had money and power, they could've easily sent Olive away and not have her stay around. That sounds to me like they wanted to support the children and that it was a relationship with someone. In the South, children like that are called "outside" children- they were born outside of the man's marriage. Here's the estate records of Dandridge- D. C. Dowell Case 675 probate Dandridge C. Dowell location 58 (probably a file) Decedent Estate 15 Oct 1912 I would get the estate records, they can tell you a lot, especially if there was a dispute of any kind Missouri Marriage Records Dandridge C Dowell Ida Thoroughman 16 Oct 1879 St Louis Notify Administrator about this message?
