I'm curious about your COOPER line. I had several COOPERs that came out of SC to AR ..starting I think about 1845 when BEnson G. COOPER and wife Delphia LINDSEY came to Crittenden for about a year, then went to St Francis / Monroe Co area.

My gg grandfather is a son of above Benson G. COOPER ...Dillard L. COOPER b 1838 SC last married in 1876 in Monroe, Brinkley, AR to Parthenia ANDREWS / ANDERS, b about 1835 Wilkes / Lincoln GA (on a line that came about 1855 to Monroe Co area). Parthenia or "Theny" or Partheny came married to George M. HOUSE (mar 1851 GA), who died during or after Civil War. Next she married to E. or Ed HOLLEMAN / Holliman, Holloman, HOLMAN and now shown in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Brinkley AR as HOLMUN. He died according to her bible record 1873; and last she married August 1876 in Brinkley to Dillard L. COOPER. They were the parents of Clara COOPER b 1878 Monroe Co Brinkley AR, and Clara married 1898 in Brinkley to William David McLAIN.

Wm David McLAIN, b 1859 Lawrence Co AR, mar 1878 Lawrence Co AR #1 to Cordelia MOSIER (from Indiana)and #2 in 1898 to Clara COOPER and they made their home in Newport, Jackson County AR. There is a BROWN marriage on this line ...Elva McLAIN bornabout 1889 to Wm David McLAIN and Cordelia MOSIER, married 1911 Jackson Co, Newport AR to Walter Stuart BROWN.

I have no personal knowledge of any COOPERs from the SC line going to IL, but it is an enormous line and very possible. I know some that some remained in North Carolina where my direct line was before it began to spread and some went to Spartanburg DIstrict SC. Then at least one in the 1830s left SC went to AL and TN, on to TX, back to TN, then back to TX, and in the 1840s at least 3 brothers came to AR and stayed put awhile ..Benson G., William and Caleb ...those of us researching the line make new discoveries all the time.

There is a DNA project on the line of COOPER if you have a male in your line still bearing the COOPER surname. It is a project through FamilyTreeDNA out of Houston TX with lab work done by Univ of AZ. Nothing to do with the Family Tree genealogy software ... I have no male COOPERs, but my great grandmother was a COOPER and I have her old bible and know my direct connections to Benson G. COOPER, so with others on the line, I have proven connections thanks to those who have done the DNA testing.

Benson G. COOPER b about 1813 SC, son of Matthew COOPER b about 1793 SC d 1854 Spartanburg SC, son of William B.COOPER b about 1742 SC, son of David COOPER and ?last wife, Elizabeth ?WILDER. David was born about 1725, Edgecombe, Nash Co, NC, d May 7, 1792 Spartanburg, Thickety, SC David had a lot of children...Rehab, Marcome, William B, Charity, Oprah (mar AMOS), John Cotton, Sion, Malachi,Elizabeth and Edward are known children ...and David is thought to be a son of Marcome COOPER b about 1695-1699 Warwickshire, England, died 1792 Spartanburg District, Thickety, SC.

More distant and possibly not correct, Marcome is thought to be a son of William COOPER and Elizabeth LAU (?LAW) ... and one of the trees claims that this William died 1699 at St Katherine, by the Tower of London, Middlesex, England. I suppose his wife Sarah UNKnown could have remarried and brought Marcome to America ...?? I did not do the research that produced this ancestral data or speculation, so have nothing to back it up.

Hope to hear from you as I'm curious about your line that was in Jackson Co AR. My gg grandmother Parthenia / Partheny who last married DIllard L. COOPER in 1876, came after 1900 to live in Newport with her daughter Clara COOPER and spouse Wm David McLAIN ..and Parthena died there in 1915. Never have found a burial or obit for her, but there is a large section in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Newport, for McLAIN burials and I am surprise there is no stone there for her. Wm David had built a small house for her to live in, behind his main house in Newport, this info from my mother who was born 1921 Newport and is still living.
