Not knowledgable, just follow some hunches that pay off. I don't live in that vicinity, so depend on some records online and some that I have access to. Clicking on my name should pull up my email address, it is not hidden or blocked. Just some more of my hunches, but I think that your William is a son of Mary E. McCool, shown as a widow on the 1900 census of Marion Twp., Phillips Co., AR, in the HH of her son Henry. Also in this HH are two young Dice girls listed as "cousin" to Henry. They are 9 year old Josephine and 5 year old Rosa Lee. Dice is not a common surname in the AR census records, at least not with that spelling. 1900 census, Marion Twp., Phillips Co., AR, ED 78, pg. 114A Dice, W. P., head, Dec 1860, 39, married 0 years, AR, TN, TN, farmer , Della or Stella (indexed as Della), wife, Jan 1881, 19, TX, TX, TX To me this indicates they have been married less than a year. Do you know when and where they married? 39 is a bit long in the tooth for a first marriage, perhaps W. P. was married previously. 1880 census, Spring Creek, Lee Co., AR, pg. 639D, ED 170 McCool, Mary E., 34, head, AR, TN, TN (1900 census shows her as born in TN) ? Days, Deys ?, Wm., 18, son, AR, AR, TN, farmer Dye, Thomas, 17, 13, son, AR, AR, TN McCool, Henry, 13, son, AR, AR, TN McCool, Mary, 10, dau, AR, AR, TN Notice that the enumerator, listed all of these children as sons and daughter of Mary E. McCool, yet listed her as born in AR and their mother born TN. I think she should have been listed as born in TN. William and Thomas are indexed in this census as Dave William and Thomas McCool, ignoring the surname written because it looks like it was scratched out, but that is seen often where the census taker drew a horizontal line under the first entry for a surname, then just entered given names until he reached the next surname. Often the next surname will be written over that horizontal line. To the person who had the job of indexing that entry many years later, it apparently looked like Dave was written before the given name of William, but it has a large swooping Y in it. Mary E. Dice married Jas. McCool on Jan 31, 1867, Phillips Co., AR, Family Tree Maker Marriage Index, Arkansas, 1779-1992, CD #6. Notify Administrator about this message?
