How to research a murder from 1950? Any ideas?

My grandfathers brother was murdered in 1950, in Lee County. I have the newspaper article that contains his obituary. I would like to find out what happened to the man that shot him. I have no idea where to start looking, and if anyone can give me some tips, etc., I would appreciate it. I live in Florida, so cannot go to look anything up. Does anyone know of any online sites that can help? Below is the article from the Courier Index, on May 4, 1950.

J.L. GAGE KILLED FRI.; A.T. LAMB HELD FOR CRIME
John L Gage was shot and killed last Friday morning in a field on the farm of J. M. Tindall, near McAnulty Lake. A. T. Lamb is being held in the county jail charged with the crime. According to Sheriff S. C. Langston, Lamb reported the crime himself shortly after the shooting took place. He admitted killing Gage. The shooting apparently arose out of a dispute over a plot of land on the Tindall place, Sheriff Langston said. Lamb had come to his office Thursday morning, the Sheriff stated, inquiring about a peace bond because Gage had threatened him. Sheriff Langston informed him that it would be necessary for a Justice of the Peace to swear out a warrant before his office could take action. Lamb decided against that course of action, Mr. Langston said.
Coroner's Report:
Coroner Billy Williams, the first to arrive at the scene of the shooting, reported that Gage had a starter crank in his hand and that there was a knife at his feet. Both these items were brought in as evidence. Mr. Williams said that Gage had been shot twice in the head with a shot gun. Both shots entered the head at almost the same spot. Lamb had told Sheriff Langston that he took his gun to the field with him for protection and said that Gage was moving in on him with the crank and knife when he shot him. Lamb was bound over to the Grand Jury at a hearing Tuesday for Judge Elmo Taylor. He is being held on $5000 bond, on a charge of first degree murder.
Services Sunday:
Services for Mr. Gage were held Sunday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock in the Williams Chapel. Gage was 53 years old. The Rev. James Taylor conducted the service. He is survived by his wife, four children, two sisters and nine half-brothers and sisters. Active pall bearers were Adair Langston, Casey Motes, Elvy Love, T. M. Ferguson, Lawrence Gage and F. R. Atkins. Burial was in Memorial Park cemetery with Williams Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
