1880 Census, Oak Forest Twp., Lee Co., AR, written page 5, stamped page 605. The Jeffcoats family is indexed as Jeeffoints, yes that is how the indexer read it. The head of the family is Ross, born AL, parents born SC, showing wife Nancy , age 31, born IN, daughter Anna, 11, born AR, plus an orphan boy who's given name looks like Brooks. This is very hard to read because of the handwriting and the washed out image. It looks like the orphan child is age 2, but that is a guess.

In 1860, Marianna, Independence Twp., Phillips Co., AR, written pg. 83, stamped number 359 (later will be Lee County), Ross Jefcoats, is shown as 22 and born in MS, a laborer in the HH of Sanford or Lanford Eliott. I've noticed that people living in someone else's household are rarely listed as the correct age or place of birth, the homeowner usually answers the questions.

This is most likely the 8 year old Ross Jeffcote in the HH of John and Cynthia Jeffcote in the 1850 census of Pontotoc Co, MS, which shows Ross born in Alabama and John and Cynthia born in SC.
