I am the GG-Granddaughter of John S. Jenkins, born about 1828 in North Carolina. John S. Jenkins married Nancy M.(MNU) born about 1834 in South Carolina, I am decended from their daughter Margaret Emiline Jenkins who married Thomas Marion Ryan, son of Thomas Ryan and Rosaniah Basham.

John and Nancy had seven children: Margaret Emiline born 1854 married Thomas Marion Ryan, Sarah Adaline born 1856 married James T. Cobbs, Mary Melvina born 1859 married Abraham Ryan, Eliza born 1861 married Henry Johnson in 1876, Smith born 1864, Lydia born 1867, John W. born 1875.

His daughter Sarah Adline (Jenkins) Cobbs and her husband James T. Cobbs, were in Logan County Arkansas, lived and died in Logan County, Arkansas.

Also another daughter of John S. Jenkins, Mary Melvina Jenkins who had married Abraham Ryan lived there also.

John S. Jenkins showed up in the Morgan County Alabama census in 1860 with his family. The last record we have of him is in 1880 Morgan Co. AL census. We believe he may have went to Logan County after 1880 to be with his family and died there.

This Jenkins and Ryan family intermarried with the Oden and Basham, Cobbs, Smith, Hill and Williams families.

We know that John Jenkins was a Cherokee Indian and many in the Ryan family was also, his daughter Margaret Emiliene married Thomas Marion Ryan the daughter of Rosaniah (Basham) Ryan, she was also Cherokee.

In researching Logan County, I discovered that is were the early Cherokee settlers came around the Arkansas River area. With John Jenkins being Cherokee we believe his family may have moved there because of family already there.

Anyone who might know anything on these families please contact me. Thanks Reba Skillman, Altoona, Alabama, skilled@hopper.net
