I research Logans (and Morelands) from York District SC. My ancestor Robert Logan (bc 1821-24)may have come from one of the Logan families of York District SC - or he could have been born in NC near the border of SC. Robert Logan married 1847 Gilmer Co GA Mary Ann Moreland, the grdaughter of John Moreland (1790-1840 census York Dist). Her father was Joseph Moreland, who also removed to Gilmer, Murray and Whitfield counties, GA. There was a Joseph Logan purchasing/disposing of land abt. 1846-47 Gilmer Co. Circumstantial evidence points to this Joseph Logan being the father of Robert. Joseph was not in Gilmer Co on either the 1840 or 1850 censuses. He had died or removed by 1850. I'm aware of the Revolutionary War brothers William, Thomas, Joseph, and John and have located some data on all of them. The problems lie in determining which are the brothers and which are other generations. Since Robert wasn't a name so far located among the Logan given names there, I'm at a loss where to look. William Logan (Rev. brother) left a will and pension data indicating his daughter Mary married Zadock PACKARD of N. Y. Mary and Zadock are found on the York Dist census during the early 1800s. Since the surname is somewhat unusual, it provides a way to look. However, this may not be the line from which my Robert descends, if he does descend from the Logans of S.C. Any help will be appreciated. Joann Notify Administrator about this message?
