I believe that Joseph is the son of Nathan or Nathaniel Jones of Columbia County, GA (later Morgan County, GA). Joseph's eldest son was named Nathaniel and he named a second son after Isaac Jones, (who is believed to be a brother to Nathan). Also, his marriage is recorded in the Bible of Isaac and Milly Jones. The families of Nathan, Isaac, Aaron, and John Jones were close in Columbia and Morgan Counties in the late 1790's - 1820. Nathan had another known son named Nathan who married Sarah Hunt in Morgan County in 1823
