I can't help you with the Kibby and Carter families in 1870 and after. I looked and found what you already know. I can tell you that Thomas and David Kibby were probably stepsons of Johnson Blankenship, who's second wife was the widow Jemima Goble Kibby. There isn't much on her in the Blankenship book, but an interesting note is that she made Johnson sign a prenuptial agreement so he couldn't touch her property. If you're interested, I can send you by email a bit of info on Johnson and his children. Jemima's Kibby children are not mentioned except that there were several.
