Delight was incorporated on September 9, 1904, when papers were filed in the Pike County Courthouse. However, people had been living in the area since the 1830s. According to an article by Odell Kelley Hughes a post office was approved on January 18, 1832, for the community of Wolf Creek (present day Delight). At that time, the area was in Clark County, AR.

In 1834 the territorial papers for the state recognized Wolf Creek as a mail stop between Little Rock and Hempstead County Courthouse (now known as Washington).

In 1837 Samuel Hasley patented around 43 acres covering the approximate site of present-day Delight. After some transactions, it was later sold to William H. "Bill" Kirkham for $800.

History records that Kirkham was supposed to have said, "This place is such a delightful place to live, we shall call the town Delight."
