The following article was published in the Lauderdale County Enterprise, Ripley, TN 16-Mar-1923
"Mrs. Agnes Scott attended the funeral of Mrs. Tom Speck in Harrisburg, Ark. on Friday. She was accompanied by her sister, Mrs. A. W. Steele, of Memphis."
After further research, I find the following information on these families:
William Thomas Speck, born Feb 8, 1879, died Jan 11, 1911. He married Ethel Sparks in Poinsett County, 1901. She was born Dec 29, 1883 and died Mar 8, 1923. Both are buried at First United Methodist Church Cemetery in Harrisburg.
Arch W. Steele married Loura Speck. Arch Steele was born Aug 31, 1882 and died Oct 2, 1941 in Memphis, TN. Loura Speck Steele was born 01-26-1893 in Ripley, TN, died 02-26-1945 in Memphis, Shelby County, TN. Both Arch and Loura are also buried at First United Methodist Church Cemetery. The death date is not engraved on the marker of Loura Steele.
William Thomas Speck, Agnes Speck Scott, Loura Speck Steele, and Mary Speck, were all children of William G. Speck and Senora Drake of Ripley, Lauderdale County, TN. At the time of the 1910 census, William G. Speck was proprietor of a jewelry store in Ripley where his daughter, Agnes Scott, was a saleslady. William Thomas Speck was the proprietor of a drug store in Ripley.
By 1920, Ethel Speck and her sister, Allie Sparks, were living with their widowed father, Alfred W. Sparks, in Poinsett County, AR.
Agnes Speck Scott was widowed and had one son, Adam Scott. Based on the 1920 census, Tom Speck and Ethel Sparks had no children.
I have no relationship to these families. This information is being posted to benefit other researchers.
