Christopher,

Many of my relatives were from NE Poinsett County, including Rivervale. I was able to locate marriage records in Craighead County and obituaries in the Jonesboro newspapers.

Your best bet would be to contact the Genealogy Society of Craighead County (www.gscca.net). The members there are wonderful and have been a huge help to me. There is an obituary index, but the only James Haynes I saw from the 1940’s died in 1949. One of the members might be willing to search local papers from 1943 for your grandfather. The Jonesboro Library has papers from Jonesboro, Marked Tree and Lepanto on microfilm. Maybe something will turn up...

Sadly, if you grandfather died in a rural area of Poinsett County, he simply may not have a death certificate. While it was required to report deaths to the state beginning in 1914, not all areas complied right away. This seems especially true for rural areas like Rivervale.

A few of my distant relatives died in Rivervale, some in accidents (like drowning). Dates range from 1917-1939. There were write-ups in the Jonesboro newspapers, but no death certificates exist.

Best wishes in your search! :-)
