Absalom (born between 1832-1841/died after 1880)was the son of a Dr. James Hodges of Tippah County, Mississippi; raised as a country boy, he loved to fish and hunt. Out of 10 siblings, Ab was known as the "wild one". Eventually, he fell in love and married Frances E. (Moore) and had a couple of girls (Betty and Mary). He then joined the Civil War for the Confederates. After the war he came back to Mississippi where he had eight more children (Abbie [Oty/Addie], Dora, Leota, James, Leonora, Nancy, Eliza, and Sally.) By 1880 he had moved to Prairie County, Arkansas. While there he was murdered in a Cotton Field. Some of his children passed away before his demise and they are buried in Prairie County as well. His wife and the rest of his family moved to Oklahoma. Does anyone have any information on why he was murdered?(Old newspaper clipping, family story, death notice, obituarty, etc.) Does anyone know where this man and some of his children may be buried?(Tombstones, church records (He was raised in a Southern Baptist Church-probably attened a Baptist church, obituaries, etc.) Here is a list of his family, maybe someone will recognize one of their names: Absalom "Ab" Hodges married Frances E. (Moore) 1. Frances Elizabeth "Betty" Hodges married Thomas Jefferson White 2. Mary (Jane) Hodges 3. Abbie (Oty, Addie) Hodges 4. Dora Hodges 5. Leota Hodges 6. James Hodges 7. Leonora Hodges 8. Nancy Hodges 9. Eliza Hodges 10. Sallie Hodges *Frances Elizabeth "Betty" Hodges who married Thomas Jefferson White lived in (I Think) Harrison or Harrison County, Arkansas and later moved to Oklahoma. I would be greatful for any information you would be willing to share. Thanks, Kim Hunt Notify Administrator about this message?
