Hello, fellow Aragons,
I was not raised near my father's family and am seeking information on him and my other relations in California (most likely). My father was born in Raton, New Mexico, but his mother and siblings: Angela, Vincent, Gladys, Joseph, William or Bill, John, Katherine, Manuel, Jimmy, moved to Southern California. My mother met him when she lived in Long Beach, but she moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico when I was ten months old. His mother's name was Ruth Aragon, and based on these previous postings I've just read, her name could very well be Gurule. My father's name was Joseph Alberto Aragon. His family was musical. He could not read music, but had a real ear for music and composed. He also wrote poetry. I do not know what he does now or whether he still lives. I know he had other children, but I doubt they even know I exist.
I guess, I'm looking for information on the whole other half of my family, whom I've never heard anything from after Grandmother Aragon passed on - whom I did meet when I was little. I am also curious as to this grandmother's heritage: we are suspicious that she might have brought more native american blood into my heritage, which had Cherokee from my mother's side.
My birth name was Christina Maria Cabaniss. I was born in May of 1964 in Harbor City, CA. I changed my name recently to Maria Christina Cabaniss Aragon, because I never liked my first name; my last name was hard to pronounce; and because I was using the name Maria Aragon as my pen name anyway.
Any help would be appreciated that would help me fill up this Grand Canyon-sized hole in my family background.
Maria Aragon
