Hello, primo! We are certainly descended from the Aragon bloodline. From which child of Luis Quintana and Isabel Aragon, do you come? My grandfather passed down a nice photograph of Luis, Isabel, Andrellita and Jose Quintana. I also have a nice image of Florencio Quintana Sr. that was taken by Mark Nohl that appeared in Nohl's photography essay on New Mexico. I attended Florencio's rosary back in 2000 in ABQ with my family members. I understand that it will be two years this fall that his son, Florencio Jr., from Pueblo has passed. I was in touch with his wife, Helen, prior to his death, but his health problems interceded in any real exchange of information. I was pressing them for an image of Florencio Aragon and Andrellita Rael which was to be hanging in the old house in El Cerrito. However I have never been able to see this supposed portrait.
I have collected a substantial document on the children of Florencio and Andrellita that I am happy to share with you. Florencio's father was indeed Ramon [also listed as Roman] Aragon and his mother was Margarita Perea. She is from the once powerful, merchant clan of Perea from Bernalillo. There is a transit record showing that Ramon worked as a freighter on El Camino Real hauling goods for Baltazar Perea, Margarita's father. The pre-nuptial record that survives shows that Ramon and Margarita were to have been married in Belen on September 12, 1821. However, no marriage record has been found to confirm this. His parents are shown to be Mariano Aragon and Manuela Antonia Sanchez. I am working with other Aragon relatives to trace this Mariano Aragon. These descendants are from Julian Aragon, Florencio's older brother. Julian's exploits are well documented as a leader of a militia force during the Civil War conflict in NM and he served as an elected representative to the Territorial Government. Anyway, we are hoping to verify that our Mariano Aragon was an original grantee to the Anton Chico Land Grant.
I am happy to share with you all the information that I have. I live in CA, but I return to NM to recharge my soul every summer, so let me know if we can get together. Su primo, Richard Garcia (My great grandparents were Bonifacio Garcia and Benigna Aragon, Anton Chico, NM)
