I'll post my reply here for similar reasons. Maybe there are some out there who can verify or disprove what we are saying.
Have you a copy of Eileen Junkin's Ardiel Family history? In it, she states that
" Incidentally, a knowledgeable researcher claims Ardiel to be originally French. Our great, great, etc. grandmother Carrie's (changed to Carry) family were Hugenots who escaped persecution in France as they were Protestants. They fled to the Tipperary region in Ireland." This lends weight to your theory.
It would be very interesting to pursue your theory.
I am getting messages from younger (than we are!)generations of Ardiel's ~ a good omen!
