I have just found your query. I cannot give you much information about the Tooth family except that my g.g.aunt, Annie Ainslie Currie married a John Robert Tooth Ardrey. His mother was called Maria.
Maria's maiden name was Larkings Tooth, she married John Ardrey in Tonbridge, Kent in 1835.
On the 1841 census Maria appears to be the head of the household, it states that she was not born in Tonbridge. The same census shows two children, a daughter, Anne Maria, aged 4, and son, John Robert, aged 6 months, both were born in Tonbridge.
The 1851 census for Tonbridge shows Maria as Head of the household, aged 40. A Basketmaker by trade, she was born in Robertsbridge, Sussex, there was also another child called Frank William Ardrey, aged 5 years, also born in Tonbridge.
I have part of the 1861 census for Tonbridge which shows an Edward Tooth. aged 43, Bootmaker. b. Ashford, Kent. His wife, Eliza Tooth aged 49 b.Penbury, and a John Ardrey, Nephew, aged 20, Boot Closer, b. Tonbridge.
Edward and Eliza Tooth were witnesses at the marriage of Maria and John Ardrey, so Edward must have been Maria's brother, and the nephew, John, was probably Maria's son, John Robert, who married Annie Ainslie Currie.
I hope this is of some help.
By the way, how did you find me amongst the Ardrey's? Do you have any information on this name?
