My George Argenbright apparently died between 1850 and 1860 probably in Smith County near Starrville, Texas but I cannot find where he is buried. His son, Arthur A. Argenbright, appeared in the 1860 Smith County census with his wife Amanda and six children. On the 1870 Smith County census appears five of Arthur A.'s children (Henderson, William, James, and the twins Melissa and Dorcas (or Dorcus).
I did not find the sixth child, Sarah, who was born c. 1849.
The twins are living in a different household than the older boys so I assume that Arther A. and his wife, Amanda, died between 1860 and 1870. In the 1880 Smith Co. census four of Arthur A.'s children appear: H.(Henderson)and William living together, and J.P.(James) living with his sister Dorcus J. Powell, wife of J.L. Powell.

I am a descendant of George Argenbright's son, Eldridge.
He married Nancy Koeun in Smith Co. in 1861. I have not been able to find Eldridge on any 1860 census. However, Eldridge and Nancy appear in Smith Co. on the 1870 census with two children, George and Sarah. It seems the children of my George and Salley Finley Argenbright all want to name one of their girls Sarah, probably in honor of Salley Finley. In 1875 a record appears in Van Zandt Co., Texas of the birth of Thomas Arganbright to E.H. (Eldridge) and Nancy Arganbright in the city of Wills Point. Note the spelling change from Argenbright to Arganbright. Then I cannot find Eldridge on any 1880 census. There are Van Zandt Co. records of his children's marriages in 1880-1890's. Eldridge and his married children appear in the 1900 Van Zandt Co. census. Apparently Nancy had died by that time.

In the 1850 Smith Co. census in my George Argenbright's household are two females, Adaline age 28 and Sarah age 7. Other researches believe that this Sarah is the daugther of Adaline and that Adaline is possibly a daughter-in-law to my George or some other relationship than daughter. Other researchers have found clues that Adaline may have been a cousin to George's wife, Salley Finley. Adaline married John Hardegree (Hardigree) in Smith Co. on March 14, 1861. They lived in Wills Point, Van Zandt Co. Texas.

Hope this information may be helpful to you or others searching the Web for Argenbright/Arganbright information. Regards, Vicki
