Ellen Argyle
I am trying to trace my paternal line. My great grandfather was Edward Derry (b around 1850). He had a sister Ellen (Argyle), who later raised his three children after his death in 1893.
Family lore has it that Ellen worked in a shoe factory in Leicester. I have found Ellen Argyle (b 1857) a shoe flowerer - married to George H Argyle ( shoe rivetter) resident in Leicester at the time of the 1881 census.
Has anyone come across Ellen in their research - of course I am hoping that prior to her marriage she was Ellen Derry but I can find no records to support that.
I look forward to hearing from anyone who can help - I have hit the stonewall on my Derry research so I am trying to go via a female line. Many thanks and good luck to everyone with their own research - Kathleen Derry
