Hello!I've followed your posting with reserved caution as I don't like to lead people astray and consequently, prolong their search.I've been attempting to follow my "roots"; but, Pancho Villa and the Mexican revolution, missing church records tend to leave a big gap (not ascertainable) in the family lineage.I am male, have lived in the American southwest all of my life and have spent 17 years living in Spain.
As to your question, "why are there so many Armendariz's living in the Copper Canyon area of Mexico?"
It's just surmisal... but after the Pueblo Indian rebellion (around 1680), a Spanish King called upon a Spanish Lieutenant to come and "reconquer" New Mexico from the Pueblo Indians.A land grant was established and entire families accompanied him to New Mexico. The lieutenant's name?... Pedro Armendariz. The land grant is one of the largest in New Mexico and was recently bought by Ted Turner and Jane Fonda.Hence, the reason for so many Armendariz families in Chihuahua and Southern New Mexico.I'm sorry that this posting is so long... I tend to get "windy" when talking about my roots. My father Simon was born in Buenaventura, Chihuahua,Mexico (Jan.03,1903) He passed away in 1985.He was the only son of Gavino Armendariz ; Two other siblings were born to Gavino.Petronilia Queseda (nee Armendariz) and Domitila Barela (nee Armendariz)they both reside in Buenaventura. My dad, Simon married Bonifacia Loera Soto and they produced seven children [two boys and five girls]. My e-mail address is: [email protected] you would like any further information, I will try to get it for you.Take care... and.... God Bless!!
