A biography/family history of George Arnott, Jr., is included in "Montana, Its Story and History", Vol 2, Image 496. His paternal ancestors were Huguenots who immigrated from France to Scotland in 1685. The immigrant ancestor of George Arnott came to the US shortly after the Revolutionary War. George's grandfather, James Arnott, was born 1810, Orange County, New York, and in 1869 moved west to become a pioneer farmer near Paxton, IL. His wife's name was Agnes Coulter.
George Arnott, Jr., was born 9 Aug 1885, to George and Susie (Gray) Arnott, b. 1 May 1849, Greenwich, NY, and 1852, PA, respectively.
George, Jr., was educated in Paxton, IL, and attended Tarkio College, Tarkio, MO, for three years, and graduated with a degree in law from the University of Michigan in 1908.July 1908, George located to Billings, MT, where he was employed at the Snell & Arnott law firm. He acquired a 400 acre ranch in the Yellowstone Valley, and half interest in a 430 acre ranch in Fergus County, MT.
In 1913, Billings, MT, George married Miss Irena Swearingen, daughter of J.R. and Florence (Cardell) Swearingen of Billings.Arnott children: Florence, b. 6 Mar 1916; George, b. ca 1921.1930 Federal Census shows Irene as divorced and living with her two children in Billings, MT.
