Re: ARTLETT from England

I have information on a large number of Artletts. I believe they are all likely to be related to Artletts living in Sussex, England, in the 1500's.

In the neighbouring county, Kent, almost all references are in the Dover & Deal areas.

I have checked transcripts of the Deal Parish Records. In 13 Jan 1813 there is an entry for the baptism of MARIA ELIZ. HARTLETT, the daughter of WILLIAM (a mariner)& MARIA HARTLETT, of Jews Harp Alley. There is little doubt that the surname should be ARTLETT.

This William is probably WILLIAM STUBBERS ARTLETT, who was baptised in Deal on 16 Mar 1785, the son of WILLIAM & MARY ARTLETT. He, in turn, was the son of WILLIAM ARTLETT and MARY STUBBERS, who married in Deal on 13 May 1784.
