Found this in a list of Death notices of an Edgefield County book in the Charleston County, SC library. As I did not copy the cover, I cannot give a full credit reference.
(759) Died in Edgefied District on May 12, 1852, after a lingering illness of several years, Mrs. Mary Asbell, consort (used to mean wife)of Lewis Asbell. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. (A) ("The Edgefield Advertiser," May 27, 1852.
(930) Died on June 27, 1854, at his residence in Edgefield District, Lewis Asbill, Sr., in the 69th year of his age. He was a native of North Carolina, but for many years a citizen of Edgefield District, and a member of the Baptist Church. ("The Edgefield Advertiser," August 3, 1854)
Through my research, I have noticed that Lewis spelled his name Asbell, but his children changed to spelling to Asbill. I do not know why and will probably never find out. But notice that Mary's obit has Asbell (probably written by Lewis Sr.) and Lewis's obit has Asbill (probably written by his children)
