Asbell Family Genealogy Forum

OK. So, I was told by my dad that our origional name was McAsbell. But I was pretty sure he was incorrect for two reasons. One: from the census records I looked up (traced back) it doesn't appear so. And two: I speant a million years online looking for "McAsbell" and nothing came up. The only thing I found was on ancestry.com. One McAsbell in MS from the census of 1805-90. That was months ago. Almost a year I think. (I can't access ancestry.com or genealogy.com unless I go to the family history center. Meaning I can't look in the census records from my house. It tells you the names are in there, but you can't view the record unless you have a membership.) I'm gonna be going to the Family History Center (FHC) tomorrow.
Anyway, today I did a search and it said there were 4 McAsbells in the canadian census record of 1911. I couldn't believe it. I don't know why I can't find them anywhere else. I know I'm probably relying too much on the internet. I've been too busy to do anything else right now. Does anyone know any search engines from other countries I can try? And by the way, has anyone else heard of the surname of McAsbell?
Also, I'm really hoping to do the DNA testing this month. I can't wait.
