I was told something similar - that the name came from Ashbald, meaning the people that live among the Ash trees in the hills.

I used to think everything was settled in my family tree. It seems that I can't be sure anymore...

I'm having problems tracing my roots to and through Joseph Asbell and Rebecca Wilcox. It seems that there are many conflicting stories...
